Ugacuaq, or seal meat stew, is a traditional dish from Yup'ik cuisine that is hearty, flavorful, and perfect for warming up on a cold day.
Ingredients
- 2 lbs seal meat, cubed
- 1 onion, chopped
- 3 carrots, sliced
- 3 potatoes, diced
- 4 cups water or broth
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Heat a large pot over medium heat.
- Add the cubed seal meat and cook until browned on all sides.
- Add the chopped onion and cook until translucent.
- Add the sliced carrots, diced potatoes, and water or broth to the pot.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Bring the stew to a boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 2 hours, or until the seal meat is tender.
- Adjust the seasoning if needed and serve hot.
