Ugandan Donuts (mandazi)
Ugandan Donuts, also known as Mandazi, are a popular snack in Ugandan cuisine. These delicious fried dough treats are often enjoyed with a cup of tea or as a sweet snack on their own.
Ingredients
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp ground cardamom
- 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 cup coconut milk
- 1/2 cup water
- Vegetable oil for frying
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, cardamom, and cinnamon.
- Add the coconut milk and water to the dry ingredients and mix until a dough forms.
- On a floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thickness and cut into desired shapes.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a deep pan over medium heat.
- Fry the donuts in batches until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
- Remove the donuts from the oil and place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- Serve the donuts warm and enjoy!
