Chapati is a popular unleavened flatbread in Ugandan cuisine, often enjoyed with stews, curries, or on its own.

Ugandan Flatbread (chapati)

Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1.5 cups warm water

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the flour and salt.
  2. Add the vegetable oil and gradually mix in the warm water to form a dough.
  3. Knead the dough for about 5 minutes until smooth, then divide it into 8 equal portions.
  4. Roll each portion into a thin circle on a floured surface.
  5. Heat a skillet over medium heat and cook each chapati for about 1-2 minutes on each side, until golden brown spots appear.
  6. Repeat with the remaining portions of dough.
