Ugandan Ghee Sauce (eshabwe)
Eshabwe, also known as Ugandan Ghee Sauce, is a traditional dish from Uganda known for its rich and creamy flavor. It is often served with staple foods like matoke (cooked and mashed green bananas) or millet bread.
Ingredients
- 2 cups ghee
- 1 cup finely chopped onions
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon turmeric
- 1 teaspoon curry powder
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- In a saucepan, heat the ghee over medium heat.
- Add the onions and garlic, and sauté until the onions are soft and translucent.
- Stir in the turmeric, curry powder, and cayenne pepper, and cook for 2-3 minutes.
- Season with salt to taste.
- Remove from heat and let the sauce cool slightly before serving.
