Ulcinj Shrimp Pilaf
Ulcinj Shrimp Pilaf is a traditional dish from Montenegrin cuisine, featuring succulent shrimp and flavorful rice. This dish is perfect for a special dinner or a gathering with friends and family.
Ingredients
- 1 lb (450g) shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 2 cups (400g) long-grain rice
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tomatoes, diced
- 4 cups (1 liter) chicken or vegetable broth
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
Instructions
- In a large pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, and sauté until the onion is translucent.
- Add the rice to the pot and stir to coat the grains with the oil. Cook for 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Stir in the diced tomatoes, paprika, and dried thyme. Season with salt and pepper.
- Pour in the chicken or vegetable broth and bring the mixture to a boil. Reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and simmer for 15 minutes.
- After 15 minutes, add the shrimp to the pot and stir gently. Cover and cook for an additional 5-7 minutes, or until the shrimp are pink and opaque.
- Once the shrimp are cooked and the rice is tender, remove the pot from the heat. Let the pilaf rest, covered, for 5 minutes before serving.
