Upma With A Twist (tasty Uppittu Upma)
Upma, also known as Uppittu, is a traditional South Indian breakfast dish that is popular in Uttara Karnataka Cuisine. This recipe adds a delicious twist to the classic Upma, making it a tasty and satisfying meal.
Ingredients
- 1 cup semolina (rava)
- 2 tablespoons oil
- 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
- 1 teaspoon urad dal
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 green chilies, slit
- 1/2 inch ginger, finely chopped
- 1 carrot, finely chopped
- 1/4 cup green peas
- 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
- Salt to taste
- 2 1/2 cups water
- 2 tablespoons fresh coriander leaves, chopped
Instructions
- Heat a pan and dry roast the semolina until it turns golden brown. Set it aside.
- In the same pan, heat oil and add mustard seeds. Once they splutter, add urad dal and sauté until it turns golden.
- Add chopped onions, green chilies, and ginger. Sauté until the onions turn translucent.
- Stir in the chopped vegetables, turmeric powder, and salt. Cook for a few minutes.
- Pour in the water and bring it to a boil. Reduce the heat to low and slowly add the roasted semolina, stirring continuously to avoid lumps.
- Cover and cook for 5-7 minutes until the Upma is cooked and all the water is absorbed.
- Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve hot.
