Ingredients

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine the raisins, candied fruit, and nuts. Pour the brandy over the mixture and let it soak for at least 1 hour.
  2. Preheat the oven to 325°F (165°C). Grease and flour a 9x5 inch loaf pan.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time.
  4. In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, nutmeg, cinnamon, and salt. Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the creamed mixture.
  5. Stir in the soaked fruit and nuts, along with any remaining brandy, and the vanilla extract. Mix until well blended.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top.
  7. Bake for 1 hour in the preheated oven, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then remove from the pan and cool completely on a wire rack.
