Urulai Masala (chettinad Potato Masala)
Urulai Masala, also known as Chettinad Potato Masala, is a flavorful and aromatic dish from the Chettinad cuisine of Tamil Nadu, India. It is a popular side dish that pairs well with dosa, idli, or chapati.
Ingredients
- 4 medium potatoes, boiled and diced
- 2 tbsp oil
- 1 tsp mustard seeds
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 tomatoes, finely chopped
- 1 green chili, slit
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp red chili powder
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1/2 tsp garam masala
- Salt to taste
- Fresh coriander leaves for garnish
Instructions
- Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds. Once they splutter, add the chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
- Add the chopped tomatoes and green chili. Cook until the tomatoes turn mushy.
- Now add the turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, and garam masala. Mix well and cook for a few minutes.
- Add the boiled and diced potatoes. Mix gently to coat the potatoes with the masala.
- Season with salt and cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot.
