Vada Pav (वडा पाव)

Vada Pav is a popular street food in Maharashtra, India. It consists of a spicy potato fritter (vada) served inside a bun (pav) along with chutneys and green chili. It is often served with a side of fried green chilies or a spicy garlic chutney.

Ingredients

  • 4 pav (buns)
  • 4 boiled and mashed potatoes
  • 1 cup gram flour (besan)
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1/2 cup chopped coriander leaves
  • 8-10 garlic cloves
  • 4 green chilies
  • Oil for frying
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Boil, peel, and mash the potatoes. Add salt, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and chopped coriander leaves. Mix well and form into small balls.
  2. Prepare a batter with gram flour, salt, and water. Dip the potato balls in the batter and deep fry until golden brown.
  3. Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, and chopped garlic. Saute until the garlic turns golden brown.
  4. Slit the pav (buns) and spread some garlic chutney on one side and tamarind chutney on the other.
  5. Place the fried potato fritter inside the pav and serve hot with fried green chilies.
