Vaduz Hirschfrikadellen In Pilzsauce (vaduz Venison Meatballs In Mushroom Sauce)
Vaduz Hirschfrikadellen in Pilzsauce, or Vaduz Venison Meatballs in Mushroom Sauce, is a traditional dish from Liechtenstein that combines the rich flavors of venison with a creamy mushroom sauce. This hearty and comforting meal is perfect for a cozy dinner at home.
Ingredients
- 500g ground venison
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 250g mushrooms, sliced
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 2 tablespoons flour
- 2 tablespoons butter
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix together the ground venison, chopped onion, minced garlic, breadcrumbs, egg, milk, parsley, salt, and pepper. Form the mixture into meatballs.
- Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Brown the meatballs on all sides, then remove them from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add the sliced mushrooms and cook until they release their juices and become golden brown.
- Sprinkle the flour over the mushrooms and stir to combine. Cook for 1-2 minutes to remove the raw flour taste.
- Pour in the beef broth and stir to combine, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the skillet.
- Return the meatballs to the skillet, cover, and simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until the meatballs are cooked through.
- Stir in the heavy cream and butter, and simmer for an additional 5 minutes to thicken the sauce.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve the Vaduz Hirschfrikadellen in Pilzsauce hot, with your choice of side dishes.
