Ingredients

  • Vaduz Hirschbratwurst (Venison sausage), 4 links
  • Sauerkraut, 1 can (drained and rinsed)
  • Onion, 1 large (sliced)
  • Apple, 1 (sliced)
  • Butter, 2 tablespoons
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • Caraway seeds, 1 teaspoon
  • Potatoes, 4 medium (peeled and sliced)
  • Vegetable broth, 1 cup

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a skillet, brown the Vaduz Hirschbratwurst over medium heat. Once browned, remove from the skillet and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, melt the butter and sauté the onions and apple until softened.
  4. Layer the sliced potatoes in a greased casserole dish. Sprinkle with caraway seeds and black pepper.
  5. Spread the sauerkraut over the potatoes, followed by the onion and apple mixture.
  6. Nestle the browned Vaduz Hirschbratwurst into the sauerkraut mixture.
  7. Pour the vegetable broth over the casserole.
  8. Cover the casserole dish with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  9. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and the sausage is cooked through.
