Venezuelan Churros (churros Venezolanos)
Venezuelan Churros, or Churros Venezolanos, are a popular sweet treat in Venezuela. These fried dough pastries are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, coated in cinnamon sugar, and often served with a side of chocolate sauce for dipping.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 cups water
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Vegetable oil, for frying
- 1/2 cup sugar, for coating
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon, for coating
Instructions
- In a saucepan, combine the water, butter, salt, and sugar. Bring to a boil over medium heat.
- Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract and flour until the mixture forms a dough.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large, deep skillet over medium-high heat.
- Transfer the dough to a piping bag fitted with a star tip.
- Pipe the dough into the hot oil, cutting it with scissors to the desired length, and fry until golden brown.
- Combine the 1/2 cup of sugar and ground cinnamon in a shallow dish. Roll the fried churros in the cinnamon sugar mixture to coat.
- Serve the churros warm with chocolate sauce for dipping, if desired.
