Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon instant yeast
- 1 cup lukewarm water
- Oil for frying
- 1 cup cooked mince (ground beef)
- 1 cup shredded lettuce
- 1 cup diced tomatoes
- 1 cup grated cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, salt, and yeast. Gradually add the lukewarm water and mix until a soft dough forms.
- Cover the bowl with a clean kitchen towel and let the dough rise in a warm place for 30 minutes.
- Heat oil in a deep pot or skillet over medium heat. Take small handfuls of the dough and shape them into balls, then carefully place them in the hot oil and fry until golden brown on all sides.
- Remove the vetkoek from the oil and drain on paper towels.
- Cut a slit in the side of each vetkoek to create a pocket for the fillings.
- Fill each vetkoek with cooked mince, lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, sour cream, and cilantro.
