Viennese Cheese Strudel (Wiener Käsestrudel)
Wiener Käsestrudel, or Viennese Cheese Strudel, is a delicious traditional pastry from Vienna, Austria. This flaky and savory strudel is filled with a creamy cheese mixture and makes for a perfect appetizer or snack.
Ingredients
- 1 package of phyllo dough
- 1 cup of cottage cheese
- 1 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/4 cup of grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/4 cup of chopped fresh parsley
- 1/4 teaspoon of salt
- 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper
- 1/4 cup of melted butter
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a bowl, mix together the cottage cheese, mozzarella, Parmesan, parsley, salt, and pepper.
- Place one sheet of phyllo dough on a clean surface and brush it with melted butter. Repeat with 5 more sheets, brushing each with butter.
- Spoon the cheese mixture along the long edge of the phyllo stack, leaving some space at the edges.
- Roll up the phyllo, tucking in the edges as you roll, and place the strudel seam-side down on a baking sheet.
- Brush the top with more melted butter and bake for 25 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Let it cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
