Vietnamese Sandwich
This Vietnamese sandwich, also known as Bánh mì, is a delicious and flavorful dish that combines French and Vietnamese culinary influences. It's a perfect blend of savory, sweet, and spicy flavors, making it a popular street food in Vietnam.
Ingredients
- 1 baguette, cut into 4 equal pieces
- 1/2 lb pork belly, thinly sliced
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 2 tbsp fish sauce
- 1/4 cup rice vinegar
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 cup pickled carrots and daikon
- 1/2 cup cucumber, thinly sliced
- 1/4 cup mayonnaise
- 1/4 cup cilantro leaves
- 1 jalapeño, thinly sliced
Instructions
- Marinate the pork belly in soy sauce and fish sauce for 15 minutes.
- In a small saucepan, combine rice vinegar and sugar. Heat over medium heat until the sugar dissolves. Remove from heat and let it cool.
- Grill the marinated pork belly on a stovetop grill pan until cooked through and slightly caramelized.
- Spread mayonnaise on the cut sides of the baguette pieces.
- Assemble the sandwiches by layering the grilled pork belly, pickled carrots and daikon, cucumber, cilantro, and jalapeño on the baguette.
- Drizzle the pickled vinegar over the assembled sandwiches.
