Vietnamese Shaking Beef (Bò lúc lắc)

Ingredients

  • 1.5 lbs beef tenderloin, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 onion, cut into wedges
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon fish sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 green onions, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine the beef cubes with garlic, soy sauce, oyster sauce, fish sauce, sugar, and black pepper. Let marinate for 15 minutes.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over high heat. Add the marinated beef and cook for 2-3 minutes, shaking the pan occasionally to sear the beef on all sides. Remove the beef from the skillet and set aside.
  3. Using the same skillet, add the butter and sauté the onion wedges until they are slightly caramelized.
  4. Return the beef to the skillet, add green onions, and drizzle with sesame oil. Toss everything together for another minute.
  5. Transfer the shaking beef to a serving plate and garnish with additional green onions if desired.
