Ingredients
- 1 lb beef stew meat, cubed
- 1 onion, chopped

- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a large pot, brown the beef stew meat over medium heat.
- Add the chopped onion, sliced carrots, and diced potatoes to the pot.
- Pour in the beef broth and red wine, then add the pearl barley and bay leaf.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Simmer the soup over low heat for 1 hour, or until the meat is tender and the flavors have melded together.
- Remove the bay leaf before serving.
