Walnut Tart (tarta De Nueces)
This Walnut Tart, known as Tarta de Nueces in Extremaduran cuisine, is a delicious and traditional dessert that showcases the rich flavors of walnuts in a sweet and flaky pastry crust.
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 egg yolk
- 1/2 cup honey
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 1/2 cups chopped walnuts
Instructions
- In a food processor, combine the flour, butter, sugar, and salt. Pulse until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Add the egg yolk and continue pulsing until the dough comes together.
- Press the dough into a tart pan, covering the bottom and sides. Chill in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a bowl, whisk together the honey, brown sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract until well combined.
- Stir in the chopped walnuts.
- Pour the walnut mixture into the prepared tart crust.
- Bake for 40 minutes, or until the filling is set and the crust is golden brown.
- Allow the tart to cool before slicing and serving.
