Warak Enab Mahshi (yemeni Spiced Stuffed Grape Leaves)
Warak Enab Mahshi is a traditional Yemeni dish of spiced stuffed grape leaves that are bursting with flavor. This dish is perfect for a special occasion or a family gathering.
Ingredients
- 1 jar of grape leaves
- 1 cup of rice
- 1 lb of ground beef
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 1 tomato, diced
- 1/4 cup of fresh parsley, chopped
- 1/4 cup of fresh mint, chopped
- 1 teaspoon of ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon of ground coriander
- 1/2 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon of ground cloves
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 cups of water
- Juice of 2 lemons
Instructions
- Rinse the grape leaves under cold water and drain well.
- In a large bowl, combine the rice, ground beef, onion, tomato, parsley, mint, cumin, coriander, cinnamon, cloves, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
- Place a grape leaf on a flat surface, shiny side down. Place a spoonful of the rice and beef mixture in the center of the leaf. Fold the sides of the leaf over the filling and roll it up tightly.
- Repeat with the remaining grape leaves and filling.
- Place the stuffed grape leaves in a large pot, seam side down, in a single layer. Pour the water and lemon juice over the grape leaves.
- Cover the pot and cook over low heat for 1 hour, or until the grape leaves are tender and the filling is cooked through.
- Remove from the heat and let the grape leaves cool slightly before serving.
