Ingredients
- 1 jar of grape leaves
- 1 cup of long-grain rice
- 250g of ground lamb
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 tomatoes, diced
- 1/4 cup of fresh parsley, chopped
- 1/4 cup of fresh mint, chopped
- 1/4 cup of olive oil
- 1 teaspoon of ground allspice
- 1/2 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 lemon, sliced
Instructions
- Rinse the grape leaves under cold water and drain well.
- In a large bowl, combine the rice, ground lamb, onion, tomatoes, parsley, mint, olive oil, allspice, cinnamon, salt, and pepper. Mix well to combine.
- Place a grape leaf on a flat surface, shiny side down. Place a small amount of the rice and lamb mixture in the center of the leaf. Fold the sides of the leaf over the filling, then roll it up tightly.
- Repeat the process with the remaining grape leaves and filling.
- Place the stuffed grape leaves in a large pot, seam side down, in a single layer. Place the lemon slices on top of the grape leaves.
- Add enough water to the pot to cover the grape leaves. Place a heatproof plate on top of the grape leaves to keep them submerged.
- Cover the pot and cook over medium heat for 1 hour, or until the rice is tender and the grape leaves are cooked through.
- Remove the plate and lemon slices from the pot. Allow the stuffed grape leaves to cool slightly before serving.
