Ingredients
- 1 loaf of French bread, sliced into 24 pieces
- 2 cups grated cheddar cheese
- 1/4 cup butter
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat the broiler.
- Place the bread slices on a baking sheet and toast under the broiler for 1-2 minutes on each side, until lightly golden.
- In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour and cook for 1 minute.
- Whisk in the mustard, milk, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper. Cook and stir until thickened.
- Remove the sauce from the heat and stir in the grated cheddar cheese until melted and smooth.
- Spread the cheese mixture onto each toasted bread slice.
- Place the topped bread back under the broiler for 2-3 minutes, until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
