Wiener Krautrouladen (viennese Cabbage Rolls)
Wiener Krautrouladen, or Viennese Cabbage Rolls, are a traditional dish from Viennese cuisine. These delicious rolls are made with tender cabbage leaves wrapped around a flavorful filling, creating a comforting and satisfying meal.
Ingredients
- 1 head of cabbage
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 cup cooked rice
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 can (14 ounces) sauerkraut, drained
- 2 cups beef broth
Instructions
- Boil the whole head of cabbage in a large pot of water for 5 minutes. Remove from water and carefully peel off the leaves. Set aside.
- In a bowl, mix together the ground beef, cooked rice, chopped onion, minced garlic, paprika, salt, and pepper.
- Place a spoonful of the beef mixture onto each cabbage leaf and roll up, tucking in the sides as you roll.
- Layer the sauerkraut in the bottom of a large pot. Place the cabbage rolls on top of the sauerkraut.
- Pour the beef broth over the cabbage rolls. Cover and simmer for 1 hour.
