Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups ground walnuts
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 6 large eggs, separated
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, beat together the egg yolks and granulated sugar until thick and pale. Stir in the ground walnuts, flour, vanilla extract, baking powder, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form. Gently fold the beaten egg whites into the walnut mixture. Then, fold in the melted butter.
- Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the cakes are golden and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow the cakes to cool completely.
- In a chilled bowl, whip the heavy cream with powdered sugar until stiff peaks form.
- Place one cake layer on a serving plate and spread half of the whipped cream over the top. Place the second cake layer on top and spread the remaining whipped cream over the top and sides of the torte.
- Refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving. Enjoy!
