Xian Dou Fu (steamed Stuffed Tofu)
Xian Dou Fu, or Steamed Stuffed Tofu, is a classic dish from Anhui Cuisine that features a flavorful filling encased in silky tofu. This dish is both nutritious and delicious, making it a popular choice for a home-cooked meal.
Ingredients
- 4 pieces of firm tofu
- 200g ground pork
- 1/2 cup chopped shiitake mushrooms
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1/2 teaspoon sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon white pepper
- 1 green onion, finely chopped
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- Prepare the tofu by cutting each piece in half horizontally to create a top and bottom piece. Carefully scoop out the center of each piece to create a hollow cavity for the filling.
- In a bowl, mix together the ground pork, chopped shiitake mushrooms, minced garlic, soy sauce, sesame oil, sugar, white pepper, green onion, and cornstarch. Season with salt to taste.
- Stuff the tofu with the pork mixture, then place the top piece of tofu back on top to encase the filling.
- Place the stuffed tofu pieces in a steaming basket and steam over high heat for 20-25 minutes, or until the tofu is heated through and the filling is cooked.
- Once steamed, carefully transfer the stuffed tofu to a serving plate and serve hot.
