Xi'an Hong Shao Rou, also known as Xi'an Style Stewed Pork Belly, is a classic dish from the Shaanxi province of China. This dish features succulent and tender pork belly stewed in a flavorful and aromatic sauce, making it a popular choice for family gatherings and special occasions.
Ingredients
- 500g pork belly, cut into chunks
- 3 slices ginger
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 green onions, chopped
- 1 star anise
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 3 tbsp soy sauce
- 2 tbsp dark soy sauce
- 2 tbsp Shaoxing wine
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1 cup water
Instructions
- In a pot, blanch the pork belly in boiling water for 5 minutes. Remove and set aside.
- Heat a tablespoon of oil in the pot and sauté the ginger, garlic, and green onions until fragrant.
- Add the blanched pork belly, star anise, and cinnamon stick to the pot.
- Pour in the soy sauce, dark soy sauce, Shaoxing wine, and sugar. Stir to coat the pork belly.
- Add water to the pot, cover, and simmer for 1.5 to 2 hours until the pork is tender.
- Once the pork is tender, uncover the pot and allow the sauce to thicken.
- Serve the Xi'an Hong Shao Rou hot with steamed rice or noodles.
