Xit Kodi (goan Fish Curry)
Xit Kodi, also known as Goan Fish Curry, is a traditional dish from the Goan Catholic Cuisine. This tangy and spicy curry is made with fresh fish and a blend of aromatic spices, making it a flavorful and comforting meal.
Ingredients
- 500g fish, cut into pieces
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 tomatoes, chopped
- 1/2 cup coconut milk
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tbsp red chili powder
- 1 inch ginger, grated
- 4-5 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 green chili, slit
- 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
- 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
- 2-3 sprigs of fresh curry leaves
- Salt to taste
- 2 tbsp oil
Instructions
- Marinate the fish pieces with turmeric powder and salt. Set aside for 15 minutes.
- Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds and mustard seeds. Once they splutter, add the chopped onion and sauté until golden brown.
- Add the grated ginger, minced garlic, and green chili. Sauté for a few minutes.
- Now, add the chopped tomatoes and cook until they turn soft and mushy.
- Once the tomatoes are cooked, add red chili powder and mix well.
- Pour in the coconut milk and add the marinated fish pieces. Simmer for 10-15 minutes until the fish is cooked through.
- Garnish with fresh curry leaves and serve hot with steamed rice.
