Yang Rou Jiaozi, or Spiced Manchu Lamb Dumplings, are a traditional dish in Manchu cuisine that are bursting with flavor. These dumplings are filled with a savory and aromatic lamb mixture, making them a perfect choice for a delicious meal or appetizer.
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground lamb
- 1/2 cup finely chopped green onions
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 30 round dumpling wrappers
- Water for sealing the dumplings
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil for cooking
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix together the ground lamb, green onions, garlic, soy sauce, ginger, cumin, salt, and black pepper until well combined.
- Place a small spoonful of the lamb mixture in the center of each dumpling wrapper. Moisten the edges of the wrapper with water, then fold the dumplings in half and press the edges together to seal.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Place the dumplings in the skillet in a single layer, making sure they are not touching each other. Cook for 2-3 minutes until the bottoms are golden brown.
- Pour 1/2 cup of water into the skillet and cover with a lid. Let the dumplings steam for 8-10 minutes, or until the filling is cooked through.
- Remove the lid and continue cooking for another 2-3 minutes, or until the water has evaporated and the bottoms of the dumplings are crispy.
- Transfer the dumplings to a serving plate and serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
