Yaprak Sarma (stuffed Grape Leaves)

Ingredients

  • 1 jar of grape leaves, drained and rinsed
  • 1 cup of rice
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup of fresh dill, chopped
  • 1/4 cup of fresh mint, chopped
  • 1/4 cup of pine nuts
  • 1/4 cup of currants
  • 1/4 cup of olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper
  • 1 lemon, sliced

Instructions

  1. Prepare the filling by combining the rice, onion, dill, mint, pine nuts, currants, olive oil, salt, and black pepper in a bowl.
  2. Place a grape leaf on a flat surface, shiny side down, and place a spoonful of the filling in the center.
  3. Fold the sides of the grape leaf over the filling, then roll it up tightly.
  4. Repeat with the remaining grape leaves and filling.
  5. Place the stuffed grape leaves in a pot, seam side down, and layer them tightly.
  6. Place lemon slices on top of the grape leaves and add enough water to cover them.
  7. Cover the pot and cook over low heat for 1 hour.
  8. Once cooked, remove from heat and let the grape leaves cool in the pot.
  9. Transfer the stuffed grape leaves to a serving dish and serve at room temperature.
