Yaprak Sarma (stuffed Grape Leaves)
Yaprak Sarma, also known as Stuffed Grape Leaves, is a classic Turkish dish that features a flavorful filling wrapped in tender grape leaves. This dish is popular in Turkish cuisine and is perfect for a delicious appetizer or main course.
Ingredients
- 1 jar of grape leaves, drained and rinsed
- 1 cup of rice
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 1/4 cup of fresh dill, chopped
- 1/4 cup of fresh mint, chopped
- 1/4 cup of pine nuts
- 1/4 cup of currants
- 1/4 cup of olive oil
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper
- 1 lemon, sliced
Instructions
- Prepare the filling by combining the rice, onion, dill, mint, pine nuts, currants, olive oil, salt, and black pepper in a bowl.
- Place a grape leaf on a flat surface, shiny side down, and place a spoonful of the filling in the center.
- Fold the sides of the grape leaf over the filling, then roll it up tightly.
- Repeat with the remaining grape leaves and filling.
- Place the stuffed grape leaves in a pot, seam side down, and layer them tightly.
- Place lemon slices on top of the grape leaves and add enough water to cover them.
- Cover the pot and cook over low heat for 1 hour.
- Once cooked, remove from heat and let the grape leaves cool in the pot.
- Transfer the stuffed grape leaves to a serving dish and serve at room temperature.
