Yassa Poulet Yapp (senegalese Sunset)
Yassa Poulet Yapp, also known as Senegalese Sunset, is a traditional Senegalese dish that features marinated chicken in a tangy onion sauce. This flavorful and aromatic dish is a staple in Senegalese cuisine and is perfect for a special dinner or gathering.
Ingredients
- 4 chicken thighs
- 2 onions, thinly sliced
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon ginger, grated
- 2 lemons, juiced
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
- 1 tablespoon white vinegar
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the sliced onions, minced garlic, grated ginger, lemon juice, vegetable oil, Dijon mustard, white vinegar, chili powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well to create the marinade.
- Add the chicken thighs to the marinade, ensuring they are fully coated. Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or overnight for best results.
- Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Remove the chicken from the marinade and place it in the skillet. Reserve the marinade for later.
- Cook the chicken for 5-6 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and cooked through.
- Once the chicken is cooked, remove it from the skillet and set it aside. In the same skillet, add the reserved marinade and cook for 10 minutes, or until the onions are soft and caramelized.
- Return the chicken to the skillet and coat it with the onion sauce. Cook for an additional 5 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
- Remove from heat and serve the Yassa Poulet Yapp hot, accompanied by rice or couscous.
