Yeast Rolls (drojdie)
Yeast Rolls (Drojdie) are a traditional Moldovan dish that is perfect for any meal. These soft and fluffy rolls are a staple at Moldovan dinner tables and are sure to be a hit with your family and friends.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 package active dry yeast
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 egg
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine 1 cup of flour, sugar, salt, and yeast.
- In a small saucepan, heat the milk and butter until warm (120-130°F).
- Add the milk mixture to the dry ingredients and beat well.
- Add the egg and 1/2 cup of flour. Beat for 2 minutes.
- Stir in enough remaining flour to form a soft dough.
- Turn onto a floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic, about 6-8 minutes.
- Place in a greased bowl, turning once to grease the top. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 1 hour.
- Punch dough down. Turn onto a lightly floured surface; divide into 12 pieces. Shape each into a ball.
- Place in a greased 13x9-in. baking pan. Cover and let rise until doubled, about 30 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 375°F. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from pan to a wire rack to cool.
