Yeast Rolls (drojdie)

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 package active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 egg

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine 1 cup of flour, sugar, salt, and yeast.
  2. In a small saucepan, heat the milk and butter until warm (120-130°F).
  3. Add the milk mixture to the dry ingredients and beat well.
  4. Add the egg and 1/2 cup of flour. Beat for 2 minutes.
  5. Stir in enough remaining flour to form a soft dough.
  6. Turn onto a floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic, about 6-8 minutes.
  7. Place in a greased bowl, turning once to grease the top. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 1 hour.
  8. Punch dough down. Turn onto a lightly floured surface; divide into 12 pieces. Shape each into a ball.
  9. Place in a greased 13x9-in. baking pan. Cover and let rise until doubled, about 30 minutes.
  10. Preheat oven to 375°F. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from pan to a wire rack to cool.
