Yellow Pea Curry (ghuguni)

Ingredients

  • 1 cup dried yellow peas
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, finely chopped
  • 2 green chilies, slit
  • 1 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 2-3 dry red chilies
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • Salt to taste
  • Chopped coriander leaves for garnish

Instructions

  1. Soak the yellow peas in water for 4-5 hours or overnight.
  2. Pressure cook the soaked peas with salt until they are soft and cooked through.
  3. Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds, mustard seeds, and dry red chilies. Sauté until the seeds crackle.
  4. Add the chopped onions, green chilies, and ginger-garlic paste. Sauté until the onions are golden brown.
  5. Now, add the chopped tomatoes, turmeric powder, and salt. Cook until the tomatoes are soft and oil separates.
  6. Add the cooked yellow peas and garam masala. Mix well and simmer for 5-7 minutes.
  7. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve hot.
