Yellow Pea Curry (ghuguni)
Yellow Pea Curry, also known as Ghuguni, is a popular dish from Odia Cuisine. It is a flavorful and comforting curry made with yellow peas and aromatic spices.
Ingredients
- 1 cup dried yellow peas
- 2 onions, finely chopped
- 2 tomatoes, finely chopped
- 2 green chilies, slit
- 1 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
- 2-3 dry red chilies
- 1 teaspoon garam masala
- 2 tablespoons oil
- Salt to taste
- Chopped coriander leaves for garnish
Instructions
- Soak the yellow peas in water for 4-5 hours or overnight.
- Pressure cook the soaked peas with salt until they are soft and cooked through.
- Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds, mustard seeds, and dry red chilies. Sauté until the seeds crackle.
- Add the chopped onions, green chilies, and ginger-garlic paste. Sauté until the onions are golden brown.
- Now, add the chopped tomatoes, turmeric powder, and salt. Cook until the tomatoes are soft and oil separates.
- Add the cooked yellow peas and garam masala. Mix well and simmer for 5-7 minutes.
- Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve hot.
