Yellow Pea Curry (ghuguni Tarkari)
Yellow Pea Curry, also known as Ghuguni Tarkari, is a traditional dish from Odia Cuisine that is packed with flavors and nutrition. This hearty and comforting curry is perfect for a cozy family dinner or a gathering with friends.
Ingredients
- 2 cups yellow peas
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 tomatoes, chopped
- 2 green chilies, slit
- 1 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
- 2 tablespoons oil
- Salt to taste
- Fresh coriander leaves for garnish
Instructions
- Soak the yellow peas in water for 4-5 hours or overnight.
- Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds and mustard seeds. Let them splutter.
- Add chopped onions and sauté until they turn golden brown.
- Now, add the ginger-garlic paste, green chilies, and tomatoes. Cook until the tomatoes are soft.
- Stir in the turmeric powder and salt. Mix well.
- Add the soaked yellow peas and mix everything together.
- Pour in enough water to cover the peas and bring it to a boil.
- Reduce the heat, cover the pan, and let it simmer for 20-25 minutes or until the peas are tender.
- Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot.
