Yemeni Spiced Beef Stir-Fry (Laham Bel-Fateh)

Ingredients

  • 1 lb beef, thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp ground coriander
  • 1/2 tsp ground turmeric
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tomatoes, diced
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • 4 pita bread, toasted and cut into wedges

Instructions

  1. Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Add the beef and cook until browned, then remove from the skillet and set aside.
  3. Heat the remaining olive oil in the same skillet and sauté the onion and garlic until softened.
  4. Stir in the cumin, coriander, turmeric, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper.
  5. Add the tomatoes and cook until they release their juices.
  6. Return the beef to the skillet and stir in the fresh cilantro.
  7. Arrange the toasted pita bread on a serving platter and spoon the beef mixture over the top.
