Za'atar Twisted Bread (Manakish Za'atar)
Manakish Za'atar is a popular Levantine dish consisting of twisted bread topped with a flavorful za'atar spice blend. This delicious and aromatic bread is perfect for breakfast, brunch, or as a snack.
Ingredients
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup warm water
- 3 tablespoons olive oil
- 1/2 cup za'atar spice blend
- 2 tablespoons olive oil (for topping)
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine the flour, yeast, sugar, and salt. Gradually add the warm water and olive oil, and knead the dough until smooth. Cover and let it rise for 1 hour.
- Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Punch down the dough and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a rope and twist it into a spiral shape.
- Place the twisted dough on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush each piece with olive oil and sprinkle a generous amount of za'atar spice blend on top.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and cooked through. Serve warm.
