Za'atar Twisted Bread (Manakish Za'atar)

Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/2 cup za'atar spice blend
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil (for topping)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine the flour, yeast, sugar, and salt. Gradually add the warm water and olive oil, and knead the dough until smooth. Cover and let it rise for 1 hour.
  2. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Punch down the dough and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a rope and twist it into a spiral shape.
  3. Place the twisted dough on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush each piece with olive oil and sprinkle a generous amount of za'atar spice blend on top.
  4. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and cooked through. Serve warm.
