Zeeuwse Bolussen Cinnamon Rolls

Ingredients

  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in the warm milk and let it sit for 5 minutes.
  2. In a large bowl, mix the granulated sugar, melted butter, salt, and flour. Add the yeast mixture and knead the dough until smooth.
  3. Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
  4. Roll out the dough into a rectangle, spread the softened butter over it, and sprinkle with the brown sugar and cinnamon.
  5. Roll up the dough tightly and cut it into 12 equal pieces. Place the rolls on a baking sheet and let them rise for 30 minutes.
  6. Bake the rolls in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 15 minutes or until golden brown.
