Zeeuwse Bolussen Cinnamon Rolls
Zeeuwse Bolussen are a traditional Dutch sweet treat, similar to cinnamon rolls but with a unique twist. These delicious pastries are coated in a sticky syrup and rolled in a mixture of cinnamon and sugar, resulting in a sweet and sticky treat that is perfect for breakfast or as a snack with a cup of coffee.
Ingredients
- 1 cup warm milk
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/3 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
Instructions
- In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in the warm milk and let it sit for 5 minutes.
- In a large bowl, mix the granulated sugar, melted butter, salt, and flour. Add the yeast mixture and knead the dough until smooth.
- Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
- Roll out the dough into a rectangle, spread the softened butter over it, and sprinkle with the brown sugar and cinnamon.
- Roll up the dough tightly and cut it into 12 equal pieces. Place the rolls on a baking sheet and let them rise for 30 minutes.
- Bake the rolls in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 15 minutes or until golden brown.
