Zenica Stuffed Bell Peppers with Rice and Lamb (Zeničke Punjene Paprike sa Rižom i Janjetinom)
Zeničke Punjene Paprike sa Rižom i Janjetinom, or Zenica Stuffed Bell Peppers with Rice and Lamb, is a traditional Bosnian dish that is hearty, flavorful, and perfect for a family meal or special occasion.
Ingredients
- 4 large bell peppers
- 1 cup rice
- 500g ground lamb
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 cups tomato sauce
- 1 cup beef or vegetable broth
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Cut the tops off the bell peppers and remove the seeds and membranes.
- In a large bowl, combine the rice, ground lamb, onion, garlic, paprika, salt, and black pepper.
- Stuff the bell peppers with the rice and lamb mixture.
- Place the stuffed peppers in a deep pot or Dutch oven.
- In a separate bowl, mix together the tomato sauce, broth, and olive oil. Pour the mixture over the stuffed peppers.
- Cover the pot and cook on the stovetop over medium heat for 45-50 minutes, or until the peppers are tender and the filling is cooked through.
- Serve the Zeničke Punjene Paprike sa Rižom i Janjetinom hot, garnished with fresh parsley if desired.
