Ingredients

  • 1 whole chicken, about 3 lbs, cleaned and cut into pieces
  • 2 tbsp Shaoxing wine
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 inch ginger, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp dried goji berries
  • 1 tbsp dried red dates
  • 1 tbsp dried wolfberries
  • 1 tbsp dried Chinese yam
  • 1 tbsp dried longan
  • 1 tbsp dried codonopsis root
  • 1 tbsp dried angelica root
  • 1 tbsp dried huai shan
  • 1 tbsp dried red ginseng
  • 4 cups chicken broth

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, marinate the chicken pieces with Shaoxing wine, soy sauce, oyster sauce, and sugar. Let it sit for 15 minutes.
  2. Place the marinated chicken in a heatproof dish and arrange the ginger and garlic on top.
  3. Add the dried herbs and fruits on and around the chicken.
  4. Pour the chicken broth over the chicken and herbs.
  5. Steam the dish over high heat for 40 minutes, or until the chicken is fully cooked.
  6. Serve the steamed chicken hot with the herbs and broth.
