Ingredients

  • 500g pork belly, cut into thick slices
  • 200g bamboo shoots, sliced
  • 3 slices ginger
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 green onions, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Shaoxing wine
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon five-spice powder
  • 2 cups water

Instructions

  1. Blanch the pork belly slices in boiling water for 5 minutes, then drain and set aside.
  2. Heat a wok or large skillet over medium heat, then add the blanched pork belly slices and cook until browned on both sides.
  3. Add the ginger, garlic, and green onions to the wok, and stir-fry for a minute until fragrant.
  4. Pour in the soy sauce, Shaoxing wine, sugar, salt, and five-spice powder, then stir to coat the pork belly.
  5. Add the bamboo shoots and water to the wok, then bring to a boil.
  6. Reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 1 hour, or until the pork belly is tender.
  7. Uncover the wok and continue to simmer until the sauce thickens.
  8. Transfer the braised pork belly and bamboo shoots to a serving dish, then serve hot with steamed rice.
