Zirun Niu (cumin Beef)
Zirun Niu, also known as Cumin Beef, is a popular dish in Xinjiang (Uyghur) cuisine. This flavorful and aromatic dish is known for its bold spices and tender beef.
Ingredients
- 1 lb beef, thinly sliced
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1 onion, sliced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp cumin seeds
- 1 tbsp chili flakes
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- Salt to taste
- Fresh cilantro for garnish
Instructions
- Heat the vegetable oil in a pan over medium-high heat.
- Add the sliced beef and cook until browned, then remove from the pan and set aside.
- In the same pan, add the onion and garlic. Cook until softened.
- Add the cumin seeds and chili flakes, and cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
- Return the beef to the pan and stir in the soy sauce. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes.
- Season with salt to taste and garnish with fresh cilantro before serving.
