Zunka (झुणका)

झुणका (Zunka) is a traditional Maharashtrian dish made from besan (gram flour) and spices. It is a popular side dish that is often served with bhakri (sorghum flatbread) or rice.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups besan (gram flour)
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 2-3 green chilies, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp red chili powder
  • 2-3 tbsp oil
  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnish
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds and cumin seeds. Let them splutter.
  2. Add chopped onions and green chilies. Sauté until the onions turn golden brown.
  3. Lower the heat and add besan, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well.
  4. Cook the mixture on low heat, stirring continuously, until the besan is cooked and aromatic.
  5. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with bhakri or rice.
