Zunka Bhakri (झुणका भाकरी)
झुणका भाकरी (Zunka Bhakri) is a traditional Maharashtrian dish that consists of a spicy chickpea flour (besan) curry served with a thick, unleavened bread called bhakri. It is a popular dish in rural Maharashtra and is often enjoyed with a side of raw onions and green chilies.
Ingredients
- 2 cups chickpea flour (besan)
- 2 onions, finely chopped
- 2 green chilies, finely chopped
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
- 2 tablespoons oil
- Coriander leaves for garnishing
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds and mustard seeds. Let them splutter.
- Add chopped onions and green chilies. Sauté until the onions turn golden brown.
- Lower the heat and add turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well.
- Gradually add chickpea flour (besan) while continuously stirring to avoid lumps.
- Cook the mixture on low heat for 5-7 minutes until it becomes a thick, dry curry.
- Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve hot with bhakri.
