Ingredients
- 2 cups whole wheat flour
- 1 cup yellow lentils (arhar dal)
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 green chilies, finely chopped
- 1 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
- Salt to taste
- Oil for frying
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix the whole wheat flour with water to form a smooth dough. Cover and let it rest for 15 minutes.
- Meanwhile, rinse the lentils and cook them in a pressure cooker with water, turmeric, and salt until soft.
- Heat oil in a pan, add cumin seeds, and let them splutter. Add the chopped onions, green chilies, and ginger-garlic paste. Sauté until the onions are golden brown.
- Add the cooked lentils to the pan along with red chili powder, garam masala, and salt. Mix well and cook for a few minutes. Remove from heat and let the filling cool.
- Divide the dough into small balls and roll them out into small circles. Place a spoonful of the lentil filling in the center, seal the edges, and roll out into a flatbread.
- Heat oil in a deep pan and fry the dal puris until they are golden and crispy.
- Serve hot with yogurt, pickle, or chutney.
