Sattu Paratha (सत्तू पराठा)

सत्तू पराठा (Sattu Paratha) is a traditional Bihari dish made with roasted gram flour and spices, stuffed inside a whole wheat flatbread. It is a popular breakfast or lunch option and is often served with yogurt, pickle, or chutney.

Sattu Paratha (सत्तू पराठा)

Ingredients

  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 cup sattu (roasted gram flour)
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 green chilies, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, grated
  • 1/2 teaspoon ajwain (carom seeds)
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Water as needed
  • Ghee or oil for cooking

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine whole wheat flour, sattu, chopped onion, green chilies, grated ginger, ajwain, red chili powder, turmeric powder, and salt.
  2. Add water gradually and knead into a smooth dough. Cover and let it rest for 15 minutes.
  3. Divide the dough into equal-sized balls. Roll each ball into a small disc and place a portion of the sattu filling in the center.
  4. Bring the edges of the dough together to cover the filling and roll it out into a paratha.
  5. Heat a griddle or tawa over medium heat and cook the paratha with ghee or oil until golden brown spots appear on both sides.
  6. Repeat with the remaining dough and filling to make more parathas.
